My friend and colleague from Launch JOCO, Trista Blandshaw, wanted a foundational brand strategy for her company, BSHAW Enterprises as an umbrella business for BSHAW Inspections. Trista's goal was to was to create an identifiable branding strategy that is polished, timeless, professional with a minimalist overall feel that can be utilize her marketing efforts.
FOUNDATIONAL BRAND IDENTITY
BSHAW Inspections provides property conditions assessments, compliance inspections, and aerial imagery services such as drone inspections. Her flagship company, BSHAW Enterprises will also partner with subcontractors to confidently deliver products and services to government customers. Some of these collaborations will be outside of inspections. Whenever she informed me of this, it sparked an idea to have this reflected in her brand mark.
When providing initial sketch ideas, I always start with the brand-mark then introduce type whenever I begin drawing/converting my initial sketch ideas into vectors. This is a vital part of my process. Considering Trista provides field inspections, I wanted her mark to be a lot more different than her competitors around the area. From my discovery, everyone has a check mark incorporated into their logo so how can I differentiate her brand-mark from others.
Gathering the following information from her discovery form, which is a brief questionnaire that my clients fill out so I can design from an informed perspective; I found out she wanted a minimalist brand that reflects the professionalism, integrity, and client-focused approach she provides her customers. I also found out that her target market is federal government, state and city entities, and medium to large commercial clients.
This initiated the idea to have a few hidden gems to incorporate into her brand mark: a camera lens for field inspections and aerial wings for her drone, which then oversees a landscape of city skyline. Which then I could pair with a corporate typeface as well as incorporate into simple visual identity for her to go together with her brand identity.
